When I think of classic rock I generally think of bands such as:

Cream
The Kinks
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
The Rolling Stones

But when I think of psychedelic rock I always think of

    It all started out in the late 60's when Syd Barrett put together a blues band,
    himself, Roger Waters, Rick Wright, and Nick Mason, and got their name
    from the names of Two blues musicians. And the rest, as they say is history.
